Today was my first time in front of the mic in quite a while and the fruits were 3 new podcasts, one of which was for an entirely new podcast series.
First, it was the Entrepreneurial Exchange's ENGAGE podcast.
Second was the tartanpodcast, the podcast I started in March 2005. Today I recorded the 118th episode. As I was by now on a podcast-producing roll, Kyle and I launched the first edition of the Podcastmatters Social Medi… Continue

At the wife's parents house light off fireworks for like an hour and I call it quits because my thumb is burnt from lighting the lighters. I stand out of the way with my wife just talking then all of a sudden a bottle rocket hit my glasses then went in my glasses snug in the corner of my eyebrow/nose area I close my eyes then BOOM! the bottle rocket does what they do and blow up haha. I have this pretty bad scratch/burn but atleast I can still see fine. I was lucky I didn't lose my eye. Urgh I j… Continue
Having a birthday party today. B-day's not til Monday, but who parties on Monday?
Wait, I just said "parties" like a verb. I never do that. What a dork.
Whole bunch of friends comin' over. I'm serving up tons of Cuban food (pork shoulder, beans, rice, platanos maduros, mojitos, and much more) and calling the theme of the party: "Chance Solves the Gas Crisis!"
(pause)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Sigh. I kill myself.
Now, for the last 3-4 years, I do a thing called the "birthday song." B… Continue
Stressed. This CD is taking a lot long than I anticipated or certainly planned for. I'm happy with the results so far, but the path to those results have been frustratingly time consuming. And my stupid computer gets overworked and overtaxed, and having a day job sucks, and I just spent $500 on Superchunk's vet bill, and there is just.not.enough.time.in.the.day. UGGGGGHHHH!
One of the things that's most time consuming is the mixes and how hard I tax my computer. I have to re-boot a lot because… Continue
It had to happen some time. That time was Saturday afternoon.
The mixes I'm working on right now are literally taxing my computer to no end. I mean, I'm pushing it hard. And I use a product called the SSL Duende which, frankly, I feel is… Continue
You may remember a post from last year about a little dog dying in my arms.
Well, life is about balance. Here is the other side of that coin and how, sometimes, things are just meant to be.
Wife and I have been wanting to adopt for a couple months now. Been looking around, even went to huge adoption festival in the valley. Wanted one dog, but she was placed with her sister (the rescuer didn't want to separate them).… Continue
Not just me. Barack Obama.
Spent the evening watching the election results. At one point, I got up to work on a mix (just some minor changes to Life) but the computer started to give me problems. I think the SSL Duende was dropping out on me. So, I just powered down and thought I'd deal with it in a bit. Then Indiana became too close to call.
Goodness, gracious, Great Balls of Fire.
It was actually a huge sigh of relief that I felt. No other way to explain it. It'll be interesting to see how… Continue

Yes, nothing like this feeling. This mix is out of control. So many pushes, so many pulls. I'm really excited about this song.
And what's the difference between the completed and the almost finished you're listening to now?
Well, not too much. I pushed guitars on the choruses a bit more. I'm pushing the kick drum a bit more. I cranked up a couple of percussion on the first verse (tambourine and the pot&pan), and I turned up the hihat on the 2nd verse.
Oh, and pushed the bass slides on the tu… Continue
I've been out of touch for the past three months. Heavy duty family stuff going on. I still work too damn much but I have ventured out to a couple of rawk shows. I've returned to my metal roots! Oh yeah!!!!!! I saw Joey Belladonna last month at The Jumping Turtle. Remember Joey? He's the original lead singer of ANTHRAX. Well, second LS, if you count Neil Turbin. Anyway...Joey rocked the Turtle. The show took me back to my jr. high/high school years. I felt like a bit of a poseur. The only song I… Continue
Getting closer.
Needs more bass.
Needs more kick drum.
Wait til you hear the percussion. It's hilarious.
Maybe I should post an exclusive almost done track on this new site. Just so you guys can get a peek at it.
What do you think? Continue
I was just commenting on Brad P's page, and I thought it merited a more general comment:
Basically, I want the new Friends of Chance network to be more of a true fans destination. It's not about the numbers at first, so I don't plan on advertising or blogging or newslettering about it anytime soon. I'm going to send individual invites to everyone I think really gets what I'm about and is a fan of the music.
So, chime in with suggestions, and if you want to invite anyone, make sure they're a fa… Continue
Hey everyone. Just excited. No other way to put it.
Ambulance Chaser is the first mix that was strong --I mean STRONG--right out of the gate. I don't think I have much to do except for some pushes here and there.
It smokes. Continue

Today's work is a song called Ambulance Chaser.
This song is actually a few years old, but i could never get the feel right. I knew I wanted to re-record it with the new batch of songs, and while I was laying down a temporary drum feel for the studio (so I could record the guitars and bass), I played something very simple and I went, "wow, that works!" so it's a lot more groovy and machine like with a kind of AC/DC drum feel.
I also recorded about 8 tracks of percussion: tambourines, a wrench,… Continue

Practiced at 4/5s capacity
Practiced yesterday. My guitar player, Mike, was unable to make it due to car issues. (he lives far away)
Went well, as we started adding vocal parts to the new songs. Played through two songs primarily (Soft Bomb of Diplomacy, Liftoff) and went through a third towards the end (Happening).
Prepping for new mix
Today, I'm going to prep a new song for mix. Prepping can be a most time consuming and tedious process which is why I try to do it on Fridays. Ant… Continue
